Pincushion Bulldozer

Fiji - Week 6 by szachko
Fiji - Week 6, a photo by szachko on Flickr.
Out of curiosity, we added this beautiful Pincushion Sea Urchin as a new addition in Fiji tank. We hope this charming creature will help clean out some algae.

What we did not expect is that this purple Pincushion actually move very fast and move fearlessly. This pincushion will knock down or move all the subjects on its way. We have to move our Hawaiian feather duster to Ferrari tank as soon as we found out that its cousin, pencil sea urchin, loves to EAT feather duster..

We haven't found this urchin is a lady or a guy, yet since we don't fee like to ZAP the sea urchin and see if the urchin sheds out sperms or eggs.

Oh well, what we have done?!?!

Mystery She Wrote..

Amazon - Week 9 by szachko
Amazon - Week 9, a photo by szachko on Flickr.
Couple days after brought home group of Neon Tetras, we found this baby fish hanging around right under the water surface. She was so tiny that we were not sure if she would have survived. She disappeared into the jungle later and we kind of forgot about her.

Weeks after, girls were screening about how big (well still tiny) the baby fish became. We checked her up and verified that she is not one of Tetra since she is missing those bright blue and red stripes.

Her both eyes are kind of at the same level and sit almost on top of her head. Hubby thinks she might be a Betta.  If she is a Betta, then we might need to spawn off one more tank...  As of now, her identity still remains a mystery......

Big Bang Theory

Aquarium Fiji - Week 1 by szachko
Aquarium Fiji - Week 1, a photo by szachko on Flickr.
In responding to Absolutely Fish Midnight Madness event, the whole Zachko family stayed in line for about one and a half hours in the dark, carried the tanks, live rock and live sand home at one o'clock in the morning.

After girls went to the bed, Mr. and Mrs. Zachko still kept washing the tank, set up the sand and lined up the rock. At 3:00 AM, the reef tank was established. At 10:00 AM, we found a star fish, a snail and a shrimp wondering around the rock. The tank is named "Fiji."

Well, the Zachkos just got a call days later that another tank is on the way. On Boy...

No Bully Policy

Week 5 by szachko
Week 5, a photo by szachko on Flickr.
Reading multiple sources (conflicted informations), we were so confused how Betta will behave in a community tank that we decided to give Bob a diagnosis about his Fishality and hoped Bob could have been a peaceful Betta.

Naively, we tried to put Cherry and Amano as Bob's first play pals. It went well for the first night. But when we found parts of shrimps floating around the tank, Bob is expelled from the Tank Amazon....

S: I am thinking to get some shrimps tonight?
B: From Super Market?

S: What!!!!!!!

Genesis

For Zozo's seven years old birthday, Abby bought her a beautiful Betta fish. Girls named their first fish as Mr. Bubble.  Mr. Bubble lived in a start up plastic container with happy Buddha as his friend and one bamboo bridge as his playground.  Girls decorated the tank to make sure Mommy would be pleased and took turns to ensure Mr. Bubble was well fed.

One night, Mommy heard Mr. Bubble was wiping at the edge of the bridge claiming his woe.  Mommy decided to set up a better place for Mr. Bubble.  Mommy discussed the plan with Daddy and then setup the action.  Mommy ordered a German  Filter system to ensure Mr. Bubble would have clean water to swim in.  Daddy carried a 50 lb. tank crossed city to ensure Mr. Bubble would have bigger playground to play.  Girls were so excited and kept reading all the plants and decoration for Mr. Bubble's new home.

Unfortunately, a brutal heat wave blowed up our cooling system and heat the whole place up to 95 fahrenheit.  Mr. Bubble gave up the waiting and R.I.P.

Even though we lost Mr. Bubble, the whole family is still working on the construction.  Cover was in place.  Substrate showed up.  Lighting was on the way.  Mommy and Daddy had found the place for the new plants.  Before long, the new home is well decorated and we named it, "Amazon."

Abby and Zozo would like to visit fish shop again to see how the professional designed and maintained a beautiful tank.  Both girls could not help but fall in love with Betta fish and asked for another try.  With hours of struggling, girls picked a pretty purple Beta and named the fish, "Bob."

And here it is.  Bob looks pretty happy now!!  By the way, the full name of the fish is "Mr. Bob Bubble."
